All About Winter Paralympics 2018

Winter Paralympics 2018 - the world's one of the most inspiring sports events of the year was held at PyeongChang, South Korea. Winter Paralympics has a rich history of effort, enthusiasm, and achievement. The first Winter event was organized in the year 1976 in the beautiful city of Ornskoldsvik, Sweden. Since then, in every four years, Winter Paralympics has been organized in the same city after the Winter Olympics. Sochi, Russia had hosted the 2014 Winter Paralympics whereas the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has announced 2022 Winter Paralympics to be organized in Beijing, China.

Winter Paralympics is a highly recognized international sports event in which physically challenged athletes from all around the world participate in ice and snow games. Athletes with blindness, amputations, limited mobility, and cerebral palsy compete for prestigious Paralympics medals and bring glory to their country and community.   

PyeongChang Paralympics

Opening and Closing Ceremony                

The opening ceremony of PyeongChang Paralympics was organized in the newly built PyeongChang Olympic Stadium on 9th March 2018, where the opening and closing ceremonies of 2018 Winter Olympics were held. The Closing Ceremony of this Paralympics event was also held at the same venue on 18th March 2018.

Events and Participating Countries

Winter Paralympics for 2018 conducted a total of 80 events in 6 different sports. More than 570 athletes from close to 49 countries participated in this highly competitive Olympic event. There were 10 medal events in 2018 Paralympics in the following sports categories:

Alpine Skiing
Cross-country Skiing
Biathlon
Ice Sledge Hockey
Snowboarding
Wheelchair Curling
