Olympics 100 Meters Sprint
Yohan Blake, the
Jamaican sprinter started his 2012 Olympic warm-up with a win at a Lucerne
meet. Timing 9.85 seconds, Blake won the 100 meters race ahead of his Jamaican
compatriot Michael Frater. Earlier, 22 years Blake had gone past Usain Bolt
twice in Jamaican Olympic trials at Kingston with a record time of 9.75 to 100
meters and a leading timing of 19.80 seconds in 200 meters.
Yohan Blake to Shine in 2012 Olympics
Blake is the fourth
fastest man in the history of 100 meters sprints, following Usain Bolt, Tyson
Gay, and Asafa Powell. In 2011 World Championships, with two Gold medals in 100
meters and 400 meters sprints, Blake registered himself as a well-deserved
contender for Olympic Gold. Playing alongside Usain at the Racers Track Club of
Jamaica, Blake has bettered himself over the years.
After the Lucerne
meet, Blake himself admitted that though he had not come to run a quick time,
with a leading 9.85 before Olympics, he is happy to be on the right path. While
talking about his pre-Olympics preparations and performances, Blake lightly
mentioned his famous nickname of ‘The Beast’, given by training partner Bolt.
Such movements of
Blake are going to make the shorter versions of sprints more and more
interesting in 2012 London Olympics. Here, it is important to note that Yohan
Blake, Usain Bolt, and Justine Gatlin will have to be in a strong fight over
picking the Gold this time.
Usain Bolt and London Olympics
Usain Bolt, the
three times Olympic champion who is also known as the ‘Lightning Bolt’ still
holds a record of 9.58 seconds in 100 meters and 19.19 seconds in 200 meters
sprints. This 25-year-old 2008 Beijing Gold medalist is also eying a 4th Olympic
Gold.

Gatlin, the 2004 Olympics Gold medalist has also amused Olympics followers by
finishing a 100 meters sprint in just 9.80 seconds this season. Coming back
strong from a four years ban after tested positive against a forbidden drug;
